: A Guide on Adopting Rats from a Dedicated Breeder
Welcome to our guide on adopting rats from my Rattery. Here, we prioritize the health and happiness of our beloved pets. We want to share some important information to help you understand our process, our values and what you can expect when you choose to adopt from us.
Our Rattery and Location
Our Rattery is located in Hubbard, Texas, USA, and we pride ourselves on being a tested Rattery, negative for SDAV, HANT, LCMV, & SEND. Our Rattery is a member of the American Fancy Rat and Mouse Association (AFRMA). We are committed to breeding healthy and happy rats, and all our practices are in compliance with the standards set by AFRMA.
Our Philosophy
I invest more in my rats than I do on myself, working a full-time job to ensure they are happy and healthy. The high price of our rats reflects their value to us. It's not about making a profit, but rather a measure to ensure they go to a good home where they will be loved and cared for. This is not just a business to me, but a passion and a responsibility.
Adoption Process and Pricing
Firstly, let's discuss the prices. We require a 50% non-refundable holding deposit when you pick your rats. This allows us to reserve your selected rats for you, ensuring they won’t be adopted by someone else. The adoption prices are firm given the extensive care and attention that go into our breeding program. We have two categories of rats: breeders and pets at $80 (we do offer castrated males). If you're a breeder and want more information, feel free to reach out.
Transportation
We use trusted transporters to deliver our rats. The transport fee depends on the transporter and travel containers cost $30 each. We only transport in the spring and fall. All adopters will have their own containers with their names on them, and an envelope taped to them with the birth certificate and information about the rats. all adopters will be responsible for any transport fee.
Our Breaks
Every year, in August and September, we take a break to work with the lines that need work and spend time with our family. However, we will still be available to answer any questions that our adopters have and to help if needed.
Waiting List and Adopting
We usually have a waiting list and go in order of the waiting list. We treat everyone fairly and don't move someone to the top of the list just because they didn't plan ahead. We also don't tolerate any negativity or threats.
Replacement Animal
If something happens to your baby while it's still in our care, you will be notified as soon as we find any problems. You will be given the opportunity to pick a different baby of the same value. We aim to keep a steady supply of babies on hand and will do everything we can for our customers.
Our Health Guarantee
We also have a health guarantee but it doesn't cover certain situations like the use of inappropriate bedding, or heart attacks from not having time to settle in. We reserve the right to ask questions about your cage and the setup the babies are housed in. We want to ensure that all animals are going to good homes where they will be cared for in the best possible way.
Conclusion
Finally, we want to thank everyone for being patient with us. We look forward to doing business with you and providing your home with a healthy, happy rat. Remember, adopting a pet is a long-term commitment that requires love, care and attention.
